Malta Tourism Authority

Year 2012 / 2013

Type of service

To design and build the Authority’s stands (33 shows) at major Tourism shows worldwide. This project formed part of a public tender.

What was the challenge

To design stands, which could be adapted to various shows, some of which were practically back-to-back and even in one instance three shows happened on the same date. The design had to follow the Authority’s corporate image and also stand out amongst other stands by utilizing the available height allowances and above all keep to a budget to win the tender which was for a period of two years.

Description of project

The Authority”s Stand design had to be in conformity with Malta’s current image of a unique, high quality Mediterranean tourism destination. The design had to be attractive, and portray a professional image and reflect Malta’s position as a leading travel destination. Stands had to be designed to target the different niche markets (MICE, culture and heritage, sports, diving, language learning, weddings and cruise holidays).

Client specified that the design had to be modern but through the use of graphics and/or other elements it portrayed the unique characteristics of the Maltese islands’ history, culture, heritage and a cosmopolitan destination in a modern, vibrant and trendy way.

We therefore presented designs which would make a difference to the way Malta is projected overseas, allowing the Malta Stand to feature strongly amongst the other exhibitors at the various exhibitions. “Being a small country we have to do our best to stand out against the rest. It is a jungle out there!”

Whilst planning this winning design concept, our designers looked at aspects that were felt to be essential to the success of Malta’s participation at such exhibitions:

  1. a very strong and eye-catching design, but above all set-up to be a taste of what “Malta and Gozo” truly are – an island, the climate and history, the cultural identity in the Mediterranean Region.
  2. the stand layout being adaptable for “b2b” as well as being pro-active at attracting clients to the stand

The designers got their inspiration from the islands’ Neolithic temple structures, Malta’s rural features such as the “girna” and the architecture inherited from the Knights of St John through the fortifications, the baroque palaces and churches found in the City of Valletta and Malta’s clear blue Mediterranean Sea – all an integral part of Malta’s identity

The final solution

All stands were set-up on time and according to budget to client’s entire satisfaction with the result that tender was renewed for the following year.
